The cats are settling in nicely to our temporarily home.

They take turns sitting in this front window. I mean, what window is complete without a cat? This is Elvis, one big lovable cat. Not pictured in this post is the 3rd cat Winston, mainly because he spent the day under the covers napping. He acted as an excellent pillow for Elvis who later napped on top of him above the covers.

I found my first geocache today. If you don't know anything about this world wide treasure hunt I highly suggest you check it out here.

This was were it was hidden. Do you see it?

April 22, 2011

As we continue our drive we're seeing lots of wind farms. I'd never seen them in person before and they are so overwhelmingly large. Any photos I shot of them from a moving car really don't describe how gigantic they are.

My cat's adjusting to the car and is content to just sleep in her crate and once in a while come up to be pet. In the afternoon we all needed a stretch and an excuse to get out of the car so when we saw a a highway sign for the Pony Express we made a visit. It's nice to get out of the car, stretch, and look up for a couple minutes.

We've been pretty successful at finding local places to eat our meals. No (or limited) bad rest stop food for us! We pulled off in Kearny, NE for lunch. So far I'm loving Nebraska. The open land is so welcoming. My friend in the passenger seat is a birder and I've gotten to benefit of having all the birds we're seeing along this flat lands identified for me. We even saw a flock of American White Pelicans to all our surprises!

Colorado at last! We made it! Shortly after passing across the border from Nebraska to Colorado the land continued to stretch on endlessly but it become noticeably more dry.

I knew if I didn't pull of to the side of the road to photograph this land I would regret it later. Miles and miles of land continued on like this and I thought it was amazing. That's mostly what I've heard other people warning cross country driver's about; endless passes "with nothing there." I disagree, it's not nothing, it's land. Land in a way I don't get to see everyday, or really ever before. Maybe it's the photographer in me, but I didn't get tired of looking at it.
We're here! Now just another couple of hours until we make it to our temporary apartment in beautiful Denver.

We made it to Holiday City Ohio. It's been a long day in the car and a night of somewhat restless sleep but that didn't stop me from waking up early to go out and photograph in the early sunlight in a new place. The air was brisk if not cold but it felt good and refreshing.

Long stretches of land make up a lot of our country and I'm so glad I'm getting to drive through it.

At 7:30 in the morning the sunlight was awakening.

Still we all needed a cup of coffee before hitting the road again. We got lucky and found a local shop were we all picked up a coffee and donut for 65cents. I think we all double checked with the shoppe girl "wait, did you get the coffee too?" So we're approaching middle America!

This is my last day in New York. I've got a few last minute things to take care of. And a giant cross of the fingers that everything left fits in my car for the 3 day drive to Colorado. I'm nothing but excited, the poor kitty is probably a little more perplexed as her world empties out more daily.

April 14, 2011

I apologize for not posting in a while, I've decided to continue this blog on a regular basis although not daily. I simple stopping putting my best foot forward in regards to the images I was posting. Plus the amount of time it took to edit and make posts was becoming overwhelming. Instead I would love to continue to share my adventures and any moments of creativity with you all. So with that said, I resume my posts!

In only 6 days I am moving across country from New York to Colorado. I've been trying to really pair down my belongings. It's tough to let go of things, but it's also kind of nice to be free and to hopefully grasp the concept that I am still me (if not more so) without having to define myself by my things.

So I've been trying to find homes for most of my books and plants. I donated a trunk full of books to a local used book store who will in turn donate unsellable ones to youth shelters and literacy groups.

I have also been giving away plants to friends. I love being able to give things I love to others.
