July 31, 2009

A willow tree in Central Park right before the rainfall, waving it's arms "it's coming, it's coming! The rain is coming." It was beautiful. When I see something like that, I wish the rest of the world would stop so I could spend hours staying in that moment.

Maybe this shows it's dance better.

I made some overdue additions to my field guide book.

Today was loaded with animal happenings! Some unpleasant...

...and others quite the opposite. We found the newly hatched ducklings heading towards the rowdy children and scooped them up to reunite them with their mother who swam oblivious in the marsh. Bad mother!

I've had an exceptional rough 24 hours. All I felt was angry, upset, and frustrated today and not creative at all.

Making the "sauce" for a cold five bean salad.

Two city parks, two very different atmospheres:

9:24am. Inwood Hill Park.

7:45pm. Central Park, the Great Lawn before a free concert by the New York Philharmonic

"Excuse me building," said the ginko tree. "Do you have the time?"

"Excuse me human," said the cat. "Are you going to finish that?"

July 15, 2009

I spent the day at Marine Park and the Salt Marsh Nature Center in Brooklyn. New places means lots of pictures; and more importantly the type of pictures taken with new eyes. If only you could see things for the first time every time.

Inside the Nature Center.

8:40am.

A gentle breeze on a warm summer day.

A plane shaped cloud!

Surrounding the marsh.

Update on the plant. It grew so much in one week.

July 11, 2009

I suppose it's good that I can't decide on just one things to post. That must mean I'm producing more work...or I'm just too tired to decide (this week has worn me out quite a bit for some reason).
The Little Red Lighthouse. Manhattan's only remaining lighthouse.

A juvenile cedar waxwing was found this afternoon and brought into the nature center, before the end of the day we re released it back into the woods. We hope it makes it.

Inside the High Bridge Water Tower (built in 1872 along the Croton Aqueduct to help provide water for the growing population north of Manhattan).

A new beginning sketch for my field guide book. Color and detail to be added, and eventually posted here.

July 9 2009

This morning I woke up to beautiful light overtaking the apartment. This doesn't do it justice. It was the kind of light that changes the very energy in the air, so anyone in it feels more alive.

July 6, 2009

Remembering to look more than just straight ahead! Now I need to get myself to break my bad habit of routine and alter my course my often even if that means ignoring hunger or tired feet for a few more minutes.

First signs of regrowth after I was sure I'd killed the poor thing from over watering.

My feet aren't actually disproportionate. I blame the inaccuracy on the difficultly of drawing on a moving train, although the real excuse is my imperfect drawing skills.

I often forget that when I'm on the subway most people are watching me draw. So today, the fellow passengers also noticed my fight with the pen as it died mid drawing. One women gave me her pen as she got off the train. Genuinely surprised and happy I gave her a big thank you. I love when strangers make me smile!
